Subject: investments

Pittsburg, Kansas

About a third of my net worth is in the stock market. It was about half but in the last couple years I have sold off quite a bit to expand the farm. My profits from the stock markets over the years have consistently been better than from my farming operation. I spend about 2 hours a week on my stock portfolio and about 35 on farming (not counting NewAgTalk). Either I'm a better stock picker than farmer or just lucky, don't know if I will ever know for sure which.

Why did I sell assets that were making more money to invest in something that has historically for me made less money?

I wish to hell I knew. Only thing I can come up with is I was born a farmer and will always be a farmer at heart. That is not a very good business plan but I got a feeling there are a lot more of you out there like me.

John
