Sunflower State | I remember back in the mid 80s my grandpa bought two new pickups. One was a 85 GMC 3/4 ton 4x4 and the other was a Volkswagon diesel pickup. That VW was driven absolutley everywhere and he was mighty tickled at 50+MPG. Even had a brush guard for the front. We checked cattle, hauled fuel, fixed fence, even pulled a few NH3 tanks (real slow). He only used the 3/4 ton when the goose neck needed pulled or an extra vehicle was needed.
He was ahead of his time I suppose. Although, as a kid, I do remember feeling mighty silly at the COOP and all the other guys had full size pickups and we pull in with that small two seater.
He died in 98 with a different small pickup and the same '85 3/4 ton for pulling. Left a huge paid for estate to Grandma.
