Subject: RE: Off Farm Job Advice

Western Oregon
I pretty much had to retire from my job with the water dept in a small city because of the stress. I had only ever worked part time, 4-5 hr days the 16 yrs I worked there. 8am to 1pm. My problem started because people would not show up and supervisor would call. 8 am today, 2nd shift tomorrow, then weekends. I could not keep that up, I needed regular rest periods and night sleep. I took the first year off, then started looking for part time farm job, tractor work, mowing, light tillage, etc. Once farmers found out, I was overwhelmed with calls and had to cut that way back. Got an RV for summer travels and quit because no was just easier. I really didn't need the money, just something I knew from farming until I was forced to sell, because of my health, at 37. 67 now but every spring I get asked to work. I only mow for 2 neighbors and my Son now, my old 2550 JD and 10' mower, Son's now. They let me pick when I show up and how long I run. They know I will get it done, in time....James
