I agree. The 80's I made money on what I did. Even in 83 when the area I farmed like the landlord wanted burned up. The trouble was getting operating capital and assets depreciating 80% in six months.
I do know a lot of guys that didn't make money though. One I always remember inherited land at the high. He had to borrow to pay the inheritance tax. In a few years he owed more than the farm was worth.


We expanded in the 80s and even upgraded a few prices of machinery. So did several other neighbors in the area. The only guys that went broke around here would have went broke if wheat was $20 a bushel. Pi$$ poor managers. The only thing that put a crimp in us was drought and hail. You didn’t see the blood bath around here like you did in other parts of the country. However I will say when the CRP program came out, farmers around here took to that like ducks to water. Whole farms going in. Probably was tired of fighting it.
