Subject: RE: Those who farmed through the '80's ?

I farmed thru the 80's and have recently retired but think of it often when i hear of what this land and machinery prices are. My local bank closed and alot of local farmers were either put out of business or wrote down by the FDIC when the bank changed hands. Yes, when you see neighbers now doing well and driving new pickups and buying land that were wrote down it puts a burr under your saddle. I have some young farmers renting my land now that have asked me about the 80's. I told him to remember What you buy in the good times is what you pay for in the hard times. So yes it affected me I'm sure I was a little to conservative with the 80's in my rear view mirror and didn't expand or stick my neck out far enough going forward. So i wasn't as successful as some of my peers but i guess i still got all of what i had.
