North of London | I am sure it did for us.
The 70ies you did not seem to make any mistakes.
Poor crop (plowing down white beans ) and you just seemed to bounce right back.
Needed tile? borrow from township and they only gave you 1/3 of money bcause of demand but then gave you more of the loan 6 months later so used that for down payment on more tile. Repeat until all land fully tiled.
New machinery etc.
Then 1980ies and hung on by fingertips and paid down all those tile loans etc.
When a cheque arrived in the mail, special trip to bank to deposit and pay down operating loan which at times had interest rate of 22%
Never pay a bill a day before it was due unless vendor allowed a discount for early payment
That habit continues although cheques can be deposited by picture now and payments made online so easier to continue the old habit
And yes my parents born in the 19teens were careful with their $$ until the day they died.
One comment I remember from them was 'did not notice not having anything in the 30ies because everyone was the same' | |
