Subject: RE: E. St. Louis, IL

Highland Center, in Southeast Iowa

Few years ago, husband and I were passing thru St. L headed southeast.  We'd left home late afternoon, so it's probably midnite or after when we get into town.  Nature is calling me loud and long.  Pretty soon, there's just no way I can travel much farther without having a disaster, so we pull off the Interstate and find an all-nite laundomat.......in ESL.   Not lookin' good, but choices are really limited.  I go into the laundromat and find the facility.....several folks there "doing laundry" and watch me pretty closely as I head into the facility.  Go in the stall, lock the door, ............and on the inside of the door is a hand-lettered sign:  "all whiteys must die".  Well now, OK.  Made for a very quick trip and I tried really hard to NOT run going back out to our pickup, and was very, very glad to pull back out of the parking lot and back onto the Interstate.  I learned to plan my stops much better after that trip!!  :-)
