I believe the elephant in the room is that globalization was never intended to make the general public wealthy. Its purpose was to allow large companies to become even larger and more powerful. The side effect was that it removed the need to cooperate and buy/sell/trade with our neighbours and build resilient and diversified communities on a more local and national level.
