NW Iowa | When my new bride and I were in Colorado Springs on our honeymoon in August of 1973 the Air Force base hosted an air show with what looked like WW2 bombers. We were staying with my wife’s aunt and uncle and the formations flew low right over their house. The shaking and rumbling was tremendous. I was a 22 year old Iowa farm boy who had never been out in the world till then and it left quite an impression on me. By now most of those planes are probably long retired and most of the pilots have been laid to rest. At the time it didn’t dawn on me members of the greatest generation was piloting those planes. | |
