Put good windows in, don't try to save money here. Your wife (and you) would enjoy a built-in vac system. And I'd recommend to anyone to install a whole house fan and by all means have a screened in porch, don't scrimp on size, make it a little bigger than what you think is big enough, you won't regret it.
