Hard or cure grass is an easier finish product to handle vs soft grass ( more starch in hard or cure grass ).

IMO the best thing for soft grass is a shot of grain ( approx 1 lb grain per 100 lbs animal weight per day...preferably ground ear corn but pretty tough to find that ).
Obviously then the best thing for grain is thus a shot of grass.
Optimize the best of both World's so to speak.
On ddg grass supps, say about 5 lbs per head per day.

On Hard grass one can go with say 25% less grain or ddgs.

Managed correctly you can stock approx twice as many on the same amount of grass and they'll gain 25 to 30% more too ( vs running strait grass ).

Always made it a point to stop for steak and eggs at a place called Lott's N of Belle Fourche SD....she always served steaks off cows finished on Hard grass....pretty darn tasty stuff.

Keep in mind the only diff of choice product vs commercial is the age....marbling is the same for both grades.

On the "purist" grass programs say Tallgrass for example...it's not feasible ( MO ).
NO grain ever, according to clients who have gone to the seminars ( don't know how they'd think of cottonseed cake wintering ).

Get into winters and cattle need some grain supp to keep on keepin on and to grow and gain too.

Perhaps the most uniquely excellant steaks come off those cattle run on soft grass with 5 lbs ddgs added daily.
