I was 42, he was 87. He had Alzheimer's, and telling him bad news was always difficult because we would have to tell him it again when the subject came up, and the pain was new again. I told him everything, except that I had been diagnosed with cancer 6 months before he died. I couldn't stand to see his reaction, even once.
