Subject: Retirement

I have recently talked to a couple of guys that rented out their farms and are enjoying retirement. Both said they are making more money now with a lot less stress. One said his only mistake was not doing it 10 years earlier.

It got me to thinking. How does one know the optimal time to retire? My three kids each have a non farming path and I’m perfectly fine with that. In fact it takes a lot of burden off of me to try to perpetuate the farming operation. I can quit whenever I want without any concerns for my offspring. Putting kids through college is easy compared to starting them farming.

Would like to hear from those that have retired about how you knew it was time and what your thoughts are after having time to look back on your decision.
