| I stepped aside five years ago at 57, turned all my interests over to my oldest son, who was only 35 at the time. A big part of what I do in my other main job is transition/succession planning with family businesses. So I figured I should practice what I preach. Also, my wife and I have a significant amount of CRP income, and as an active farmer, we were paying SS tax on it. By retiring from active participation, we no longer are required to pay SS tax on the CRP. That helped considerably. My wife retired a couple years later from 33 years at FSA. Life is good.
