Mid sixties and have been approached a few times by parties interested in renting my ground if I was looking to back away. All have been polite and respectful, just a strange feeling having come to this point in life.

No idea whatsoever of when or under what circumstances I would walk away.

There is a "rural legend" around here, supported by anecdotes only, that if you retire in good health you will not last a year above the grass. Then the opposite must be true, that you can retire if you just can't do it any more and linger on earth for as long as you want?

Texted my wife that I had respectfully declined an offer of cash rent and asked if I had made a mistake and should find the fellow back. The reply was simply, "NO!"

What I would do with myself is a small consideration, what my wife would do with "retired me" terrifies her.

Retirement doesnt mean doing nothing. I sure as heck wouldnt be sitting in Iowa retired however.
