50-60 years ago, how many 30-40 heads did you see? I also have to believe that it was just part of the evolutionary developement of the combine. The early reapers, binders, and pickers were horse drawn so the operator had to one side to allow room for the team of horses. When machines became engine powered, many were just adaptations of horsedrawn models.
Why did it take 50 years?
