Subject: Re: limousin calves?? go gelbvieh

Hoisington, KS
Dad's always had a crossbred cowherd starting with Shorthorns, then Simmentals, and now to Red Angus x Gelbvieh. I don't think you can beat the Red Angus/Gelbvieh calf or replacement heifers. The Gelbvieh breed is well-known for milking, very calm and exceptional growth. We started using Gelbvieh bulls in 1985 and they were all red, but now they've gone black so they are more appealing to the black angus guys for cross-breeding.
Back in the 80's, Gelbvieh had trouble with throwing big calves and calving problems but they've fixed that.
