Having a program that works would mean our worlds would have to be closer. Accessibility? Not cell or internet service in the third world part of Eastern US. Have a vet put tags in? There isn’t a large animal vet left in this county. Not sure where the closest one might be. Lots of small time cow calf operations around here don’t have working facilities.

I can't speak for your local sale barns, but the ones here will put them in for you if you need them to. I've had wild black steers that tried to kill me when I tried to get them in the chute, and hauled them in without. I just hand the tags to the folks in the shack, smile and say "Good luck with that". They used to charge $2 a head to do it, but with labor shortages and the need to keep trailers moving, they raised the price to $5 to discourage it. They have tags there too, so if you don't have tags, all you need is your premises ID and they'll put their tags in. They charge $8 for that now, up from $5, again, to discourage it and to cover the paperwork of recording their numbers to your cattle and premises.

You've lost me on the cell phone and internet service. You register your name and location with your state department of agriculture, they issue an ID number, you make a phone call to wherever you're buying your tags, they mail them out to you. It's not rocket science. None of the things that the fear mongers were worried about here have happened. It's a huge load off my mind knowing that if something shows up in an animal that goes through the sale barn the same day as mine, I'm not going to be quarantined until they track everything down that went through there that day.
