New Mexico | banding instructions in the later banding boxes ( kits ) explain it.
Pretty sure they have an edu video or webinar linked to their website too.
We started banding horns 6 years ago....definitely like the calicrate bander better than the california bander for this.
There is generally a slight groove in the horn at the base of the head....band right there and tight.
Horns will fall off in 30 days to 6 weeks generally.
And every once in a while one will get a smart cow....she'll go find something to rub a band off....soo then she's a one horned "character" cow for a season. LOL.
Just alot easier on cattle to use bands rather than cutting em on the say 4 to 5 inch and longer horns.
On feedlot cattle...we generally just "tip" horns if needed ( take an inch or so off the end with a hand tree shear, or use a saws all )...then hot brand the end to stop the blood.
On cows I want that "Texas Tip" look on ....do the same | |
