Somewhere in your calculations though you have to account for the cow as an asset against the feed cost as you still have the cow. The amount of extra feed to carry the cow through the winter pregnant is all that can be attributed to the calf, be it a fourth, a third, or half. Those calves will make you money if the price for the cull cow stays the same.
