If you look at the 1 year or multi year analysis, you would then need to consider "opportunity costs". For example could you run two cows next summer on the pasture versus 1 really big one, or would the additional available forage on fewer cows increase the size of all remaining calves. I suspect if you always did a 1 year analysis you would never cull cows.
