Good discussion from all. Lots of things to think about. Purchase feed vs Raised feed. Internal expenses paid to the operator or external expenses going to someone else. Over feeding and to high nutrition vs feeding and utilizing roughage and ground that is not suitable for row crop production. High production vs low input. Make that cow work for you, not you work for her. Personally have adopted several things from the low input theory, that really seem to work, like the goal is to get a cow thru winter with least amount of hay possible. Getting to that point take lots of work and change of attitude. I am only half way to where Ben is, appreciate guys like him blazing the trail. Would put his cost of production up against all, lessons to be learned. Could be a true statement that "American beef industry is continuing its going out of business sale". That was a new one, that is making me think tonight. Thanks for all sharing inputs.
