west central Iowa | It was twenty years ago, but I worked my way through college except for one $2500 student loan from a year at a private college. I wouldn't trade the experiences and all the learning that took place outside the classroom let alone the education in the classroom for double what it cost. And it would have been even better if I hadn't been working all the time. I did use my degree for three years teaching half time until farming took too much time to do that any more, and I still sub some once in a while. But even if I had never used my degree I would still be glad I got it. Sometimes you have to look at things from more than just a $ and cents point of view. That said I'm hoping my son will get all of the scholarships he's applying for. He's going to go to the old man's alma mater (Iowa State) and I'm hoping the straight As and 2nd in class rank will help (got to brag a little bit). | |
