Southeast Colorado
I have seen a few kids around that have gone to work directly out of high school for an electrician. Within a couple of years they have gotten their "journeyman" license and then they can go as far as they want. Two of them, I consider good friends, now own their own companies and are doing very good for themselves. One in paticular (says he has never borrowed money in his life) owns 15 rental houses, a nice house of his own, and a beautiful cabin in the mountains. He is in his mid 40s now. Anyway, in that field you basically get paid while you're doing on the job training. Hard to beat that. I'm sure you have to start out doing the grunt jobs but that is how it should be. Eventually the good grains get seperated from the chaff. In my little dream world if I started over I would probably avoid all of my debt and start down that path. All of the electricians always seem to have all of the work they can handle especially in the rural areas.
