Blooming where I am planted!
A college education would give him skills in abstract thinking at the very least.  I've also learned it does not necessarily guarantee a higher income.  If he's got any technical bent whatsoever, seems to me it'd be a good idea to pursue some kind of certification along those lines, as that can be renewed and there is always demand for people with technical skills, whether it be computers, advances in different trades (which, seems to me, are becoming increasingly technical in terms of skill sets), and other areas.   A person who knows how to do something is always in demand, and something that would give him a piece of paper at the end that says he knows how to do thus-and-so, assuming it is a skill in demand, will help assure his future.  A degree in psychology, by contrast, does not give you something specific you can wave around and use to ask someone to hire you.
