Subject: RE: Backflowing Tile

I farm a field that has a "backflow" issue but really it isn't a backflow. What someone did was hook a new tile run up to an existing tile in order to drain a small pocket that was up a slight hill. The tile installer ran the new tile at a greater slope than the tile he hooked on to. After a blowout I installed a hickenbottom near where he hooked onto the original tile. What happens is after a heavy rain water will flow out of the hickenbottom and form a pond. Once the hill pocket drains then the water will flow back into the hickenbottom.

If your new line was installed at a more shallow grade (likely as it's a farther run to the creek) than the existing blue line then water will collect where the new blue line changes slope.

That's what the "inlet" is, a hickenbottom (I'm ignorant, and had to google that). So, this area is designed to backflow then?
