Would you be surprised if the top “forage efficient” bull was the complete opposite of the top “feedlot efficient “ bull and vice versa??
From what I've seen from the forage efficient herds here in Manitoba, they tend to be breeding for animals that efficiently put on more fat than lean tissue. Since they're breeding for an animal that finishes on grass, it has to be small enough framed that it can put on marbling while gaining 2 to 2.5 lbs/day. So it's a very different type of feed efficiency. |
