Truth is somewhere in between. If you can balance phenotype, efficiency, and growth into a cheaper package then so be it.
But to think you are going to gat the mass, foot bone, and phenotype of a 10,000 bull for 3500 is delusional
He was talking specifically about making so much more money from the calves over 5 years that they would net you $6500 over a middle of the road bull. That's just not true.
I totally agree that those two bulls should hopefully look different and have a different level of consistency in their EPDs, but that wasn't the point he was making.
I think there's lots of value in getting quality bulls for their genetics for breeding stock, or just because you like nice things, but to say that a $7500 bull is going to net you more in 5 years than a $3500 bull in calves alone when selling at weaning or yearling age is simply not true. |
