i don't know about the gap between $7500 and $3500 bulls but around here the biggest thing guys trip over is just buying a black sale barn bull calf and keeping them intact to breed cows, biggest mistake. Around here the standard across all breeders around here seems like you can get a middle of the pack kind of bull (angus, lim, sim, hereford etc) for around $3500. Even if you only had a dozen cows in the lifetime of that bull that'd be money well spent even if you don't keep heifers.
