North Central Illinois | John, your comment about the Crisco in the pie crusts made me chuckle. I remember Grandma (born in 1910) using it in the 90's sometimes but she also used and preferred lard. One time she was loading pies into the car for the county fair and the cats got in when she was going back to the house for another load. They left the crusts with Crisco untouched and grandma talked about how "even the cats know that lard makes a better crust" after that incident. | |
