Pittsburg, Kansas | Yeah I don't remember mom's putting Coke in infant bottles for the baby to drink.
Kids get tons and tons of sugar now days.
I can remember from church doings at Christmas we would get a paper bag with an orange (which was an out of season treat in those days), maybe some peanuts, and some hard candy. That was the Christmas"treat". Things were still old school when I was 6 (around 1960). But by the time I was a teenager and started high school in 67, I had money in my pocket from working and candy bars and pop were staples for me anytime away from home.
Took another 10-15 years of eating crap to be diagnosed diabetic. Did it to myself with what I put in my mouth.
And as far as vegetable oil, mom always had a can of Crisco on the shelf and all she used for baking and pie crusts. After all in her mind by what she read in her women's magazines, it was the healthy thing to do for your family. Suuurrre. Trans fats. She had no idea. Just what the food industry wanted her to think.
