| You said JR, it's all about the header RPM's. I think to many people set the rpm on 2600 with the high lift knives and never look back. I ran an 8550s for a guy one year. He also had an 8450 and 8400. I can safely say that 90% of the time I cut as good or better then the sickle machines. But I took alot of pride in what I was doing,and I'm sure most "operators" don't. The very outside knives got a new side almost daily because they took the most abuse from pivot tracks, rigdes, roads, etc. I was always adjusting header RPM to get a good cut. Field rough? Slow down the header. I always changed to a flatter knife in lighter crops so there wasnt so much wind knocking the crop over. A rotary will cut just as good as a sickle almost all the time, just have to have somebody with half a brain behind the wheel. | |
