SESD
We run a 956 JD. Yes they take power. I like to run about 8-9 mph. In 1st crop alfalfa they do an excellent job. With shorter crop 2nd, 3rd, or 4th a sickel can to just a good. I like to slow the RPM's down to the 1600-1800 range and that really helps it to do a better job, but that takes more power also. Slowing down the rpm's keeps the machine from chewing up the crop too much. Also in light crop, the speed of the rotors tends to push the crop away with the wind coming from them so if you slow the rpm's it can do a much better job and it also saves on wear on the machine. Just my .02.
