Central Iowa | Rotary the only way to go. Yes rocks aren't good for them and hard on knives but a culipaker or roller when seeding takes that problem out of the way. Rotary 30 min and $20 later you can have brand new knives installed and sharp cutting again. Like to see that done on a sickle machine. Yes takes more power but your also trying to drive 10 mph plus which is consuming alot of that power. Machine runs smoother no banging and vibration from a sickle driver. 1431 new holland good machin but we run 12 ft heston. NH is 13 foot with 9 ft rolls Heston is 12ft with 9 ft rolls so there isn't as much hay on the end of the rolls. We feel that this helps dry down behind the heston since we don't have a tedder.
