SE Nebraska | Jim,
I may disagree with you slightly on this one. Here, we are plagued by wind and blowing residue in the spring. Slot planting right into stubble may be best in my opinion if planter is capable of doing it. When you push the residue aside with operners, it blows back over the row in places, and emergence can get terribly uneven. (some areas of row with warm black soil and others with residue on top) Uneven emergence causes a lot of problems with inter-row competition. It may take a while for corn to emerge with residue on top, but at least it will be evenly emerged down the row, as long as consistant seeding depth can be maintained.
Remember, residue management for no-till, especially into corn stubble, starts now at harvest. Do a good, even job of processing stalks now.
