Subject: RE: Flying on wheat question...

Did it for years and years, once we went to no till beans it didn't work nearly as well. seed would just not grow as well for whatever the reason. We have since went to no-till wheat behind beans which works most years. We flew on a mixture of rye and cheatgrass, looked terrible in the hopper but sure grew nice and made excellent cover. Airplane pilot was used to doing small fields so that wasn't a problem, finding a place to land with insurance and liabilty was getting worse every year. Wheat was the hardest to get a good catch with. If the ground was wet and the beans were just getting a hint of color it worked most of the time. price wise there is no cheaper way of doing it IF IT WORKS.

Last time we did it was 911. With all the police phone calls and Faa calls when we finally got home from the field at dark it was a long day. Never got in any trouble but we had the skies to ourselves all afternoon. didn't find out till later what happened.
