| Corn from Scott City to Southwest of Garden City from 2 to 5 miles wide was flattened in areas, About 40 to 60 miles long. My corn that was defoilated by the hail stood better, I think from the fact that there was less wind resistance with the leaves beat off. I never thought that hail could accutally be benifical. Wind was said to of been 75 to 100 mph (weatherman said micobursts). My wind meter said 50 to 65 mph with pea size hail for 20 mins. Got 3 inches of rain quickly that sofened up the ground and helped the corn roots pull a little in the high winds. Most of my corn was 1/2 starch line so the hail probably won't take over 15% I hope. I saw a few fields completely snapped off 6 inches above the ground to some that was hailed off at the ear zone, both were 225+ corn fields with great stalk health before the event. Makes you sick it see it. I feel fortunate to have 2 to 5% snap and the leaning and hail damage. More storms forcast for the next 2 days, some severe. | |
