Lapel, In
Got Milk? Er Rocks? Called stones in other locales. If so, go with the 8 row or rent a 6 row machine and tear up someone else's equipment. Piling will be lessened a great, great deal with a reel. Definitely worth the money. Piling will be worse on the end sheets, so a 12 row would cut the number of end plugs. If the rows are blown down crossways of the direction of travel, you may want to work off one side all the time to lessen piling of stalks on the end sheet. You will do a better job of harvesting when the stalks are totally flat , with the snouts set level with the soil so the gathering chains get right down and grab the ears laying on the ground. The downside is the gathering chains are also going to grab any rocks, horseshoes, beer cans, whatever is out there, too. Have also found the cornhead works better if the gathering chain speed is adjusted so you are not pulling the stalks out of the ground.
