Driftless SW Wisconsin

If I could pick one day for all of my calves to be born it would be April 1. Given the reality of at least a 21 or 22 day (one cycle) calving period, even the narrowest window for calving is 21 or 22 days with natural service.and no sync, etc.

So what we are really talking about here is the START of natural service calving. At best the average birth date would then be 11 days later at April 11th.

I tried moving my start of calving into March but there always seems to be a late season snowstorm the day my first couple calves are due...

So from the AHA gestation chart my bull-in day for an April 1 start of calving is June 23rd. I am going to stick with that date.  It may give up a few processing pounds but if it saves a calf or heifer every couple years I will be well ahead.

From now on my emphasis will be on tightening up the calving period to try to get them all to calve within one cycle.
