We have backed off our calving dates the last 6 years and so far its worked. For us we don't wean until december and it takes alot more feed in the fall to keep the cows and calves looking good. I could rough a cow through the fall with no calf on her but not with one nursing at her side. My father has been hounding me to start calving in jan-feb agian but it's not going to happen. I like my sleep too much.
