| Lake Rathbun in southern Iowa is 2 feet above the minimum water level and about 40 feet below the maximum. So that does not sound good either. Des Moines has high nitrate levels in water are are blaming subsurface tiles. Also talking about the 3-4 year drought and nitrates are built up in the soils so when it rains nitrates may get worst. What they do not talk bout is that the water flow is less so less total nitrates are from farms because of the low water flow from farms. Translation: less water from farms more of the pollution from human waste sources. | |
