Anything other than food waste like cleaning chemicals or other pollutants can't go into digesters because it kills the methane producing bacteria which is the whole goal. Much of the food waste in these types of digesters would otherwise be going into landfills or wastewater treatment plants. By adding the food waste it makes digesters feasible on smaller dairies.
