Thanks for running the numbers. It makes my decision to dump the bushels at harvest and take the money look better.

To clarify, these contracts would have been put on in late October. That's when my area was wrapping up corn harvest. The grain buyer asked if I wanted to price the overrun or put them on basis contract. I considered it, almost did it, but took the $4.55 cash price instead. It was a dime or more higher a couple days earlier, but that's the way it goes.

And there aren't any storage charges on the basis contract bushels. That was the selling point. You don't have to price those bushels at the harvest low AND you don't have to pay storage AND you've got all the way until June to price them. Tough to pass up a deal like that!!
