Regarding my statement saying 2" is negligible between the two types of GPS, I was refering to if a person just wanted straight rows for planting or even spraying. RTK is extremely beneficial when it comes to strip-till. I've been around it and watch it work and it's extremely impressive. I've worked with a farmer that has a 12r strip-til bar and a 24r planter and to be able to watch that row unit running dead nuts down the strip and have have any guess rows is enough reason to get RTK.

GPS can be the best option out there, or the most useless when you can't get a signal.

To maintain pass-to-pass accuracy from year to year, many farmers (if they are able) will mount their base station in a central location, ie: atop a bin, grain leg. Or if you do have to move it, I've seen them remove the tri-pod and make a pole mount, bury a pipe in the ground and then have another pipe drop in. Pretty much emliminates human error, unless there's an earthquake and the ground is shifting.
