The 555 is a stroked 504. The 555 earned a reputation for breaking crankshafts. We had a 555 with a busted crank. We still have two 504's and a 378 (6 cylinder version of the 504) in old spreaders. It costs far more (my best guess is 3x) to overhaul a 504 than a 855. The 504 is a replaceable sleeve engine, and not a bad one, but it is too expensive to fix anything major. If any of them go down, they will go to the junk yard.
