Well I'm not a member but I've been operating combines for about 15 years and here is what I know works. I learned on a JD 4400 and it still works on a JD 9600 when the going gets tough in green stem beans, 2 words you need to know FAST and TIGHT. And when I say tight I mean shut 3/16" between rasp bar and concave. By fast I'm talking 500 rpm or as fast as it will go on the low side. Don't go to the high side you will lose shear bolt protection and variable speed belts are not cheap. The reasoning behind this full proof method is this: by keeping the concave tight you don't allow material to build up on the concave grate. If the concave is packed full, beans can't fall thru = plugged. I learned by watching and unplugging other so called "operators" combines and when it was my turn to get in the seat I knew what mistakes not to make. Some of you may say this probably grinds beans. Well let me say this, if your going for grain quality (ie. seed beans) maybe you should WAIT until they dry out. I'm a to the point kind of guy. No sugar coatings here.
