Subject: Two initiations into the Combine Operator Club

Huntington, IN
I read last week that you are not considered a combine operator until you plug one tight. Well, at 1:00 Saturday I became a member of the club and at 4:00 Saturday my dad became a member using the same combine. First I plugged the cylinder with a wad of wet stemmed soybeans that actually killed the combine (9410) when it hit. It took us a little over 2 hours of digging and cutting and cussing to get that wad out. By the way, the reciprocating saw idea is a good one. Also had to use a bar to get the cylinder to spin backwards to get the wad out. After that episode, Dad headed back to the field. About 2/3 of the way across the field the chopper belt jumped off and caused the whole ass end of the combine to plug (chopper sensor wasn't plugged in). That one only took about 45 minutes to dig out. Kind of a bad day since we both work fulltime and like to take advantage of the weekend.
