Neighbor was getting ready to leave for college one Sunday afternoon and his v6 S10 locked up tighter then all heck.   After they took it to the mechanic they learned that it was just the bearing in the alternator. 

Those serpentine belts have LOTS of grab.  If somethin'  don't turn, don't nothin' turn.
