I use the oil life monitor on the wife's Malibu. The German Castrol 0W30 gets close to 8000 miles at that point. Oil test from Blackstone comes back great, they say the oil will last way past what the oil life monitor indicates.
I run my Duramax up to 7500 and change it. Oil life usually goes off at around 10K on the diesel.
