| Years ago, Tom & Ray (Click & Clack) on NPR's Car Talk used to advise changing oil at 1,000 miles for a new car's first oil change. They claimed that would get rid of any impurities (or shavings) that might be floating around in a new motor. We used to do that, but now I just change my conventional oil at 5,000 miles (with Mobil Clean 5000) & go 10,000 miles between changes with Mobil 1 Synthetic. Now Mobil has Mobil Syn. 15,000. 10,000 miles is enough for me...15,000 miles would be quite a stretch for me.. | |
